What Is Himalayan Pink Sea Salt?

Himalayan pink sea salt is an edible salt that comes from the Khewra Salt Mines in Pakistan, (near the Himalayan Mountains). [1] In addition to salt as a food additive, common Himalayan pink salt products include interior decor, lamps, plates, and much more.

What's the Difference Between Sea Salt & Himalayan Pink Salt?

Sea salt is derived from evaporated seawater while Himalayan pink salt is derived from ancient bodies of water that evaporated approximately 600 million years ago. [2]

Pink Himalayan Salt Benefits

Though both table salt and pink sea salt are mainly sodium chloride, the latter is less refined and contains far higher mineral content [3], especially magnesium and iron:

  • Magnesium is known to improve cellular processes [4]
  • Iron helps repair oxidative stress and accelerate wound healing [5]

Uses for Himalayan Pink Salt in Puracy Products

In addition to the ground Himalayan pink salt benefits listed above, we utilize pink sea salt to naturally thicken most of our cleansing products[6]. This is beneficial for two main reasons:

  • It ensures that our plant-based surfactants don't dissolve or wash away too quickly.
  • It keeps customers from using too much product (i.e. makes our products "go further")
