As parents, we strive to be cautious with the baby skin care products we use. During an infant’s first year, our little one’s protective epidermal layer is still developing and often isn't thick enough to withstand the irritants found in conventional skincare products. This sensitivity means many babies are at risk of developing skin issues like eczema, atopic dermatitis, diaper rash, and cradle cap.

By taking special precautions – and using the best natural baby skin care products – you can drastically reduce your child's risk of developing these common skin conditions.

Best Natural Baby Bath Products

Whether your little one perks up with morning splashes or calms down with bedtime bubbles, you want to wash her with a safe, gentle formula.
Puracy Baby Shampoo and Body Wash uses the gentlest natural surfactant on the market, coco-glycinate. Its rich bath foam soothes and cleanses while supporting the skin’s stratum corneum layer. If this layer is disrupted, skin becomes dry, red, itchy, and irritated, which are all symptoms of eczema and dermatitis.

Our extra-gentle Natural Baby Bubble Bath formula is also naturally tear-free, and – unlike many other “tear-free” baby products on the market – doesn't contain eye-numbing agents. This gentle blend of cleansers and moisturizers naturally quells irritation and tears. In other words, our baby bath products for sensitive skin help make bath time something to look forward to.

How to Use Our Baby Shampoo and Body Wash

Puracy products are safe for infants and babies alike; however, most of these tips apply to babies whose umbilical cords have fallen off, and/or who have graduated from sponge baths.

While bathing your baby, we recommend squirting around 3-5 pumps of Puracy Natural Baby Shampoo & Body Wash under running water. This mixes the soap into the water and creates a nice bubble bath effect.

Using a washcloth, gently massage the soapy water into your baby's skin. Wring out and repeat this process for each body part. Apply a small amount of soap to your own clean hands and massage into wet hair to create a rich lather. Rinse immediately.

Follow with the Best Organic Baby Lotion

Like our baby shampoo and body wash, Puracy Organic Baby Lotion is formulated for all sensitive skin types.

To create the best baby lotion, we combined soothing organic ingredients (like aloe vera, jojoba oil, and shea), essential oils (like refreshing lavender, grapefruit), and other naturally-derived ingredients to safely nourish skin.

To use, apply the lotion as needed onto dry, clean external skin (avoiding the eye area). Our formula is so gentle that it's perfectly fine if your baby accidentally licks a small amount from her lips or hands.

Tips for Baby Skin Conditions

While dermatological issues can be incredibly frustrating, simple steps at home can alleviate many skin issues.

How to Naturally Treat Cradle Cap

Cradle cap usually appears as either dry, flaky skin or oily patches on the baby's scalp. It's very common among newborns and is easily treatable by using a humidifier at night and gently massaging your baby's scalp with organic coconut oil.

To avoid perpetuating symptoms, switch to a gentle baby shampoo and body wash.

The Best Treatment for Diaper Rash

If your child is fussier than usual during changing time – and their diaper area is red and swollen – they might have developed diaper rash.

To safely treat diaper rash, keep your baby's bottom clean and dry. Consider using a DIY diaper rash cream using beeswax, coconut oil, and non-nano zinc oxide powder. Another helpful option is letting your baby go diaper-free for a few hours each day, as this will give their bottom area a chance to dry out. Just be sure to put a large towel down first!

Avoid diaper rash in the future by changing diapers at the first sign of wetness or fullness. If rashes continue to recur, it might help to apply an ointment (such as zinc oxide) at the end of each diaper change.

Parent pro tip: If you use cloth diapers, try switching to a natural laundry detergent (as certain chemicals and fragrances may irritate your baby's bottom).

Make sure that bath temperatures are lukewarm, rather than hot (to avoid drying out skin). Afterwards, apply our organic baby lotion (or a medicated ointment) immediately after patting skin dry. It’s important to keep your baby's skin consistently moisturized and to dress them in soft, breathable materials, such as cotton. Finally, keep baby's fingernails short to prevent scratching and any accompanying infections.

Consider Fewer Baths If Necessary

Though our natural bath products are gentle enough for daily use, consider cutting down the number of weekly washes if your little one always cries in the bath. If your baby suffers from skin conditions, consider avoiding daily baths (overwashing can aggravate eczema by removing the skin’s protective natural oils).

Between baths, it’s perfectly fine to spot-clean your baby's face, hands, and neck with a wet washcloth, and clean their bottom with alcohol-free baby wipes.

Avoid Harsh Soaps and Detergents

To safely treat and prevent baby skin conditions, it’s important to avoid potential irritants like dry air, harsh baby soaps, and scented detergents. Puracy products are incredibly safe and effective, and we’re proud that our Natural Laundry Detergent was ranked #1 for babies by consumer research site Your Best Digs. Our unique doctor-approved hypoallergenic formula has zero synthetic fragrances or parabens – chemicals that can cause sensitive skin reactions.

If your baby has developed any of the above skin symptoms, be extra diligent in avoiding their exposure to harsh chemicals. Always double-check the labels of any product that comes into contact with your baby's skin. Irritants typically found in baby shampoo and lotions include sulfates (e.g. SLS, SLES), parabens, eye-numbing agents, silicones, dimethicone, dyes, and perfumes.

All of Puracy’s natural baby products are free of these irritants and are safe for babies with even the most sensitive skin.
